Something Borrowed - OOTD, The Book and The Movie

The inspiration behind my OOTD is borrowed from Kim. And since we're on the subject of  "something borrowed," one of my all time favorite chick lit novels ~ Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin is being adapted into a movie!!!

I was super stoked about this movie. I mean super stoked, but my state of euphoria was short lived when I found out who was being cast as Rachel, Dex and Darcy. I mean, what were these casting agents smoking?!? Ginnifer Goodwin as Rachel; errr . . . Ginnifer who????? And Kate Hudson as Darcy? What?!? Darcy is a brunette! And the unknown actor who's playing Dex . . . um, did Scientology clone Tom Cruise? What a major let down. I think the only saving grace is John Krasinski who will be playing Ethan. And Ethan is supposed to be across the pond in England! What is he doing in the States?!? I hate it when screen writers completely fudge up a good book. Like Confessions of a Shopaholic ~ they were supposed to be Brits. That's what made the book so much fun. I mean, I sometimes wish I was a Brit just so I could use words like knickers, knackered, bollocks and shagged me senseless.
If I had to pick my Rachel and Dex, it would be Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi . . . I heart Mandy Moore and I lurrrrve Zach Levi. Just look at these two . . . they would have sizzled on screen.

Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore

And this is not the first time casting agents have got it all wrong. Um, and I hope I don't feel the wrath from the Twi-hards. *COUGH* Rob Pat as Edward?!? I'm sorry, and I know I'm gonna lose some readers for saying this . . . but watching Rob Pat was like watching Butt-Head from Beavis and Butt-Head. Does anyone else see the resemblance? Or is it just me?

Whooopsie! I veered off topic there for a bit. If you'd like a sweet intro to chick lit, I highly recommend Something Borrowed (the book). And if you'd like to check out the trailer for the upcoming Iknowit'sgonnabebotchedup movie, here it is. And you know what? I'm still gonna see it!

  1. Oh yea.. Mandy Moore & Zach would be perfect! Anyways, can't wait for the movie to come out.

And I lurrrveeeeeeee your outfit !!!!

  2. Lisa, you look so sweet and romantic in this outfit. Love!

THANK YOU for sharing this movie. I just finished the trailer and I LOVED IT. It's exactly my type of chick flick. I haven't read the book though, but I will after I see it in theaters (books are almost always better than the movies).

LOL @ RobPatz and Butt-Head. I'm only a fan of book Edward, so this lookalike is cracking me up!

  3. Aw, I really like Ginnifer Goodwin. She was in He's Just Not That Into You. I have not read the book, but I have heard of it. I will see this movie for sure, love these types.

  4. I completely know where you are coming from. I was SUPER disappointed in confessions of a shopaholic. Hopefully this movie will be better, I loved the book. I think we are kinda literary soul sisters. Plus I was super disappointed in the Twilight casting, but I do have to say it hasn't prevented me from watching each movie!

PS-I'm in love with your shoes and top, they look great on you!

  5. I'm totally picking up this book. I love a good read, especially the chic lit. My book club is forcing me into reading books some months I'd NEVER pick up, but it's been good for me. (this month: Unlikely Disciple) Still, my heart longs for a good love story. So perhaps I should see the movie first then read? And I couldn't agree more about Rob Pattison as Edward.Ugh. But hey, that Tom Cruise clone-y playing Dex is actually a RARR on my cougar scale. Cute, no? I don't mind un-knowns moving in...

  6. I actually don't know anything about this but that last comment about the Twilight star in comparison to B & B..HAHAHA!!! :-)

  7. To Molly, and whomever else is going to pick up this book, make sure you get Something Blue also!! One is from Darcy's point of view, and the other is from Rachel's. I can't remember which is which, but they were both awesome!! I devoured them. Enjoy :) Leslie

  8. Girl, I Love your shoes! Not just this pair. Every outfit, you came out with some super cute shoes and I find myself drooling all over it.

The comment about Rob Pat is too funny. I almost fell off my chair.

  9. I totally had the same vision about copying Kim's outfit - I love seeing how the coral works with the Partly Cloudy since that's what I have hanging in my closet - you look awesome! I'm going to have to try this sometime this week!

  10. I;ve never read Something Borrowed, although i can imagine it to be quite a good read, since you recommended it!
As for the casting - hehehe - I think Ginnifer Goodwin will do a great job. I've seen her in He's just not that into you and Big Love, and she's pretty cute.
I laughed at your comment about Rpattz! aww.....don't make fun of him :-) my friends and I are obsessed! hehe. There is no beavis and butthead resemblance at all. I don't see it -- where??
Oh, i love your pretty, girlie outfit Lisa.

  11. Love those shoes! What a pretty outfit!

I have to agree with Jess - I love Ginnifer Goodwin (I love watching Big Love on HBO)! Thanks for the book recommendation. I feel like the movies are almost always disappointing and don't ever live up to the book.

Hahaha - love your Rob P. comparison!

  12. hahah, I haven't read that book but I feel like I should now...and I TOTALLY agree with you about Robert PAttinson...I just dont get it! Oh, and cute oufit, I love your top!

  13. First, I'm THRILLED to read they're making Something Borrowed into a movie! Thanks for sharing the trailer, but Kate Hudson? Ugh.
I love your outfit and I'm so flattered I inspired such a gorgeous look!

  14. Hi Lisa, Cool post. You look so pretty in this outfit. I have to admit I've never read the book :( But thanks for the heads up. John Krasinski is really cute. I love him in "The Office" He is also married to another of my favorite actor- Emily Blunt. Who at one point was engaged to Michael Buble. She also played young Queen Victoria. She is so beautiful. And she's from England. I will check out the books. They sound good. I really love to read. Again you always look amazing <3 Hope you had a good Sunday!

  15. Whoa, that guy really DOES look like a Tom Cruise clone. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Really really odd.

And I HATE it when they botch books. The only books that weren't really botched in the movie retelling were the Harry Potter & LOTR books, I think. I don't know why filmmakers feel so compelled to screw around with stuff that's perfectly good to start with. Lame.

  16. ahh--- what an odd casting! I "borrowed" the book from my BF's mom and loved it so much that I finished it in less than a day. Thanks for the heads up on the movie!

  17. I love Ginnifer Goodwin! I think she's so pretty, yet seems so sweet and down-to-earth that the casting for her is great.

LOL@the butthead comparison. I never noticed before, but I see it! I'm a fan of the Twilight books but I abhor the movies and casting for it.

Great outfit... love the shoes especially.

  18. So I'm not an avid reader so much but seeing that trailer makes me want to read the book BAD!!! Love it! =) Love your cute outfit...those shoes are darling!!

  19. Jen - ok, I promise no more making fun of Rob Pat. :-) I'll do it for you 'coz you're my bloggie sis.

Jess, Jen, Overcaffeinated and Kristin - Oh yes, now I remember Ginnifer from He's Just Not That Into You. She's a sweet actress, but if you've read the book (Something Borrowed) you'll see how she is def NOT Rachel.

Cee and Molly - Read the book 1st before watching the movie!!! Otherwise the movie will just ruin the book for you. And Cougar Molly, I don't mind unknowns as long as they don't look like Tom Cruise, lol.

Leslie - Oh, I lurrrrrrved Something Blue too. That was from Darcy's point of view and it was fantabulous!

Gabby - John Krasinski. Holla! Hullo Jim Halpert. I'm a HUGE Office fan so I totally heart that dude. I adore Emily Blunt too. I saw her in Queen Victoria and I just LOVED that movie!

Steph - you were disappointed w. Confessions of a Shopaholic? Yeah, it was alright if you didn't read the book, and it sounds sooooo cliched but the book is usually better.

Carol - I know. The Tom Cruise resemblance creeps me out. And I hear ya on Harry Potter and LOTR, those were good films.

Kim - I'm not a Kate Hudson fan either. Thanks for inspiring my outfit :)

Tiq - MM & ZL, sigh, I wish they were together in real life.

And to all you lovely ladies who dropped by, thank you for all your sweet comments. And thanks for not CRUCIFYING me for making fun of Rob Pat.

  20. I loved Something Borrowed (the book) too. Not a big Darcy fan so I didn't like Something Blue that much.

I'm okay with Ginnifer Goodwin as Rachel, but isn't Kate Hudson a bit old to be playing Darcy?

  21. I don't like Kate Hudson. Just read a short blurb on Ginnifer Goodwin & her wigs. She looks really good in them and not wig-gy, so I imagine they can transform her into the part. I haven't read the book, though. I agree it's hard to watch some books be made into movies. I read the book made into film...chick lit...Cameron Diaz played the sister that moves to Florida. I was so pissed about casting that I didn't see the movie. Casting directors don't ruin movies. Producers do. They want names w/a fan base that are guaranteed to show up on opening weekend. It's so sad. I thought the chemistry between the two was good in the Twilight movies, so I didn't mind the casting. Wasn't feeling the one they picked for Jacob, but he grew up so he wasn't so bad for the 2nd film. That's my rant.

  22. Blooey - I loved Something Blue too. I thought it was refreshing to see things from Darcy's view. And I like the love that developed between Darce and Ethan. And YES, Kate Hudson is much too old to be playing Darcy.

Gigi - Oh yeah, I know that book ~ In her Shoes by Jennier Weiner. I wasn't too happy about the casting either so I didn't see the movie. And you're right about produces ruining movies.
I agree, chemistry between the two Twi-lovers was good, but he just didn't fit the Edward I imagined from reading the book. Now Jacob I think is totally HAWT!!!!

  23. Agree! The movie will most likely make a disaster out of a great book just like with Confessions of a Shopaholic. Oh well, I will sill watch it, someday, when my boy leaves me in peace for more than 10 mins, maybe when he is 20 (he is 5 now...). But as for fav chick lit have you read Meg Cabot's Queen of Babble series? LOVE IT.

  24. Tara - Hi! I hear ya on the movie. And YES I have read Meg Cabot's Queen of the Babble series and I lurrrrrrrrved it too! Holla!
and yes, my girls won't leave me alone. *sigh* My mom warned me that once you become a mom, you're a slave for life. so true :(

  25. The photo of Robert Pattinson made my day. took away all the stress piled up in my head.
